Amy K Melson
SOMATIC COACH
I’m a Certified Somatic Coach with Strozzi Institute and a Relational Programme Manager working for Just Society Trust, an NGO in the public diplomacy and changemaker space.
I came to somatics through talk therapy, I was working with a difficult experience and ran out of words, from there my therapist introduced me to somatics. When I look back I realise I was talking about things in a completely disembodied way. Somatics started me on an exploration that reconnected me with my emotions. I started to slow down and listen to my body, discovering a process that was much less linear or predictable than anything I had experienced before. It felt deep and sustainable.
Training with Strozzi Institute in Washington DC enabled me to bridge this deeply personal inner work with the wider work of the world. Where it had felt like my healing work was separate, almost secret - something I needed to fix so I could keep up with the intensity of news cycles, my job and juggling my two young children - I started meeting peers who were doing change work in collective, caring and courageous ways. In place of organising roundtables and designing programmes, I started coaching changemakers (activists, policy makers, journalists) across Europe and Central Asia, finding a whole new way to be with the realities of people leading change.
I love how human somatic coaching is, itʻs emergent and the client gets to lead our process in a genuine way. I share questions and things I notice from a grounded and loving place and I get to be myself, not an expert, not over here having done all the work already.
I get to be in it with you, feeling it all and responding to you from there.
